As a key member of the HR Team, the HR Generalist plays a critical role in supporting our company’s strategic vision by delivering HR excellence across the organization.

This role is broad-based and hands-on, with responsibilities that span multiple areas of Human Resources, including benefits administration, recruiting, employee relations, performance management, safety and compliance, and reporting. The HR Generalist partners closely with leaders and employees at all levels, ensuring policies and practices align with our culture while supporting both business and employee success.

HYBRID/REMOTE: Tyndale supports a strong work-life balance. This opportunity requires candidates to work 4 days a week onsite, and 1 day a week remotelyTo be considered, candidates must reside within a commutable distance from our Houston Distribution Center location in North Houston area and Corporate Office in City Centre for onsite work as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Performs benefits administration including, claims resolution, change reporting, and communication of benefit information to employees;
  • Coordinate open enrollment processes including, scheduling open enrollment meetings, and delivery of the open enrollment communications and training materials;
  • Provide high level of information to employees for their benefits eligibility and elections as needed; Ensure timely completion of enrollments, with understanding of look-back periods, eligibility dates and qualifying events;
  • Serve as liaison between employees and third party administrators and broker on matters related to eligibility and enrollment;
  • Prepares and submits all employee MERP requests for reimbursement of deductible payments according to company plan;
  • Monitor and manage all leaves of absence (FML/STD/LTD) to ensure that reporting is current and accurate.  Responsible for employee and vendor communication regarding leaves and leave activity
  • Executes Wellness Initiative activities and supports wellness programs at Houston locations
  • Administers the company’s 401k Plan, including assisting with audits through preparation of information and performing audit duties as assigned;
  • Supports department with administration of company’s COBRA plan, ensuring compliance with benefit eligibility;

 

Employee Relations:

  • Administers various human resources plans and procedures for all company employees; assists in the development and implementation of human resources policies and procedures;
  • Updates Handbook policies and communicates changes of policy updates to employees
  • Maintain strong understanding of company policies and practices in order to interpret situations, advise and make recommendations to manager, as appropriate;  and supervisors; discuss employee concerns and advise employees, as appropriate;
  • Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues, conducting effective, thorough and objective investigations;
  • Conduct exit interviews, analyze findings and share feedback and recommendations as appropriate;
  • Plans and executes various Employee Engagement initiatives and events that are planned and organized by the HR department
  • Represents Company at unemployment hearings, if applicable.

 

Performance Management:

  • Assists in administering and managing the performance evaluation process including, populating all reviews in UKG software for managers and supervisors, assisting managers and supervisors with goal setting, as needed, and provide guidance to managers and supervisors on preparing reviews.
  • Coaches managers to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention to enhance employee engagement and successful business outcomes; Conducts regularly scheduled 1:1 meetings with supervisors
  • Assists managers with drafting and executing performance improvement plans, disciplinary warnings

 

Safety & Compliance:

  • Serve on Tyndale’s Safety Committee and provide input on injuries and safety-related incidents to the committee
  • Ensures compliance with New Hire Safety Training, and reoccurring trainings
  • Conduct safety investigations and complete injury/incident reports
  • Complete, file, and post OSHA 300 Logs
  • Prepare and ensure compliance for Workers Compensation renewals
  • Update panel of physician and WC claim reporting instructions per policy
  • Arrange Medicare and 401k compliance notices, as needed
  • Complete EEO-1 and Vets Reporting, and other compliance reporting as requested
  • Ensures I-9 compliance through e-Verify system, ensuring legal authorization to work in the US is maintained by all employees
  • Creates and conducts annual employee training and effective leadership development programs
  • Maintains training modules within Tyndale’s Learning Management System (LMS)

 

Recruiting & Onboarding:

  • Conduct full-cycle recruitment of exempt and non-exempt staff as assigned including sourcing, candidate screening, phone and in-person interviews, reference checks, and may present verbal and written offers;
  • Establish pro-active recruiting strategy and sourcing plans to ensure adequate applicant flow for all assigned open positions;
  • Support HR Department efforts to build pipelines with passive and active candidates through a variety of recruiting channels and job boards;
  • Support HR Team in building effective relationships with local technical schools and colleges/universities to facilitate pipeline development;
  • Coordinate with hiring managers to determine temporary staffing needs; work with HR Coordinator to ensure Temp Staffing needs are met
  • Maintain clear communication with applicants, answering any questions as it pertains to the job being filled and applicant status;
  • Review and discuss benefit offerings and eligibility with candidates
  • Perform comprehensive onboarding and orientation process for new hires
  • Ensures completion of new hire training, and reoccurring training

 

HRMS and Reporting:

  • Conduct bi-weekly payroll processes, including updating payroll records to ensure accurate processing
  • Writes, maintains and supports a variety of reports or queries utilizing appropriate report writing features in HRMS.  Acts as main point-of-contact for all ad-hoc and scheduled report requests;
  • Completes verification of employment requests
  • Serves as subject matter expert on HRMS and time tracking systems to managers and employees.
  • Leverages knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees in order to reduce risk and ensure regulatory compliance;
  • Creating employee surveys and conducting inter-departmental research, providing analysis and recommendations for improvement
  • Assists with special projects as part of a project team or independently, as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, I/O Psychology, Business or related field required;
  • SHRM-CP/PHR certification required;
  • Bilingual Spanish/English strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 2-5 years’ experience working in a full-time direct HR Generalist role with functional responsibility in employee relations, performance management, leave administration, benefits administration required;
  • Solid knowledge of current federal and state laws; Demonstrated competency of FMLA/ADA and leave of absence requirements
  • Strong customer service focus with a sense of urgency and excellent follow through;
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across all levels of the organization;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong MS Office skills to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; Advanced Excel skills highly preferred;
  • Strong proficiency and prior experience with HRMS systems required; experience using Ultimate Software (UKG) a plus;
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively conduct and complete individual and group projects;
  • Must be an effective team member as well as individual contributor;
  • Must be able to prioritize your work and drive it to completion and to multitask and handle competing priorities in a busy work environment and meet deadlines despite regular interruptions;
  • Must be able to appropriately, discretely and effectively handle and communicate sensitive information and have a strong understanding of confidentiality;
  • Must be able to perform analytical tasks and be highly detail-oriented and meticulous about ensuring information produced is accurate;
  • Experience in partnering with managers to resolve employee conflicts and situations in a timely and thorough manner strongly preferred;
  • A high level of flexibility and adaptability;
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively solve problems and communicate ideas and strategies;
  • Experience with creating and maintaining Affirmative Action Plans a plus;
  • Must be able to travel overnight by plane to out-of-area locations (Tyndale’s PA location), if requested.

Work Environment/Physical Demands: 

The person in this role works primarily in an office environment, primarily sitting at a work station, and occasionally travels back and forth between the two Houston locations. Supports operations in our distribution center. This position is eligible for remote work up to 1 days per week from a home office, with flexibility if circumstances necessitate. This position may also require periodic overnight travel by plane to out-of-area locations including, Philadelphia, PA.

Scheduled hours are primarily Monday-Friday 9am-5:30 with occasional adjustment of shift to support second and third shift hours.
